Childhood Memories Writen By: Gilbert/Harrison/Morley/Saxton/Timms |
This song really was childhood memories, based on Dean's own experiences with his Father. The song debuted at Headstrong's last ever gig on the 12th of September 1992 at Heanor Leisure Centre. Ironically it was introduced with an announcement of Dean's own venture into Fatherhood, which actually happened on 31st of March 1993 when Jackie gave birth to Shaun. Alas no tape exists of this song.
I know you'll never do me wrong
But you had it easy all along
The dirty jobs you'd never do
Everything was always done for you
You had a family by your side
You never had to run and hide
This is the way that it should be
Every child is born to be set free
Think back to the years gone by
To when your Father ruled the land
Think right back to the storybook years
When your Mother was there to hold your hand
You lived the life of a fairy tale
Happy endings for all to see
These salad days were such golden years
Can't say the same for me
Childhood memories, dark ghosts of an unwanted past
Childhood memories, the innocence it went too fast
Dear Mother, no Father, nowhere to run for love
Dear Mother, but no Father, no help from up above
I never saw my Father's hand
Unless the blows were gonna land
I only saw from day to day
Ghosts of the face but not the man
He lived alone in a separate life
Different worlds and different times
So I was punished for being his Son
My one and only crime
Childhood memories, dark ghosts of an unwanted past
Childhood memories, the innocence it went too fast
Dear Mother, no Father, nowhere to run for love
Dear Mother, but no Father, no help from up above
As the year go by, tears I cannot cry
I lived my life alone in an empty home
What I wouldn't do to be just like you
Time to live my life make the dream come true
Now the tide has turned all the things
I've learned Time to build a home I can call my own
Everything will be as good as I can see
For every child of mine
I had to learn what made the world turn
From my very early days
The things I did would make a man proud
But he was never there to sing my praise
Well now I know what a Father should be
The opposite of him
I'll never let rejection get me down
I won't repeat his sins
Childhood memories, dark ghosts of an unwanted past
Childhood memories, the innocence it went too fast
Dear Mother, no Father, nowhere to run for love
Dear Mother, but no Father, no help from up above
As the year go by, tears I cannot cry
I lived my life alone in an empty home
What I wouldn't do to be just like you
Time to live my life make the dream come true
Now the tide has turned all the things I've learned
Time to build a home I can call my own
Everything will be as good as I can see
For every child of mine
